Tax Sale Rankings:  Average - Good - Excellent

Texas, historically known as the King of Real Estate Tax Sales,  is an "Excellent" Tax Deed State.  There is a (6) Six Month Redemption Period for Properties Sold for Delinquent Taxes in the state and there are (254) Two-Hundred Fifty Four Official Counties in the State of Texas and Hundreds of various other Tax Jurisdictions (Cities, School Districts, etc..) that are authorized to Sell Real Estate Properties for Unpaid/Back Real Estate Taxes.  Because it offers buyers a Tax Deed at the time of Purchase, the State of Texas is a very attractive and popular state for Buying Properties for Back Taxes.  According to the 2009 U.S. Census Bureau estimates, the current population is 24,782,302.  Comparitively, the total population of the U.S. is 307,006,550.

Most Sales or Properties for Delinquent (back/unpaid) Taxes in the State of Texas are conducted at the County level on a regular (Monthly) basis.  Annual Tax Sales are usually held throughout the year on the 1st Tuesday of Every Month.  The State of Texas sells properties through a number of entities (e.g., Sheriffs' Office, Law Firms, etc..).  Texas does not offer Buyers/Investors Assignments of Liens on property taxes.  Like in most states, Tax Sale Buyers/Investors may have to wait at least a year before Title Insurance is granted on properties purchased at Tax Sales.

From time-to-time, the State of Texas may also offer Tax Deed "Online" Sales on Delinquent Properties to interested Buyers and Investors.  Be Sure to visit our Members-Only Section for online County Information regarding buying Delinquent Tax Sale Properties (via Tax Deeds-Direct Ownership) through online Public Auctions.
